Bachelor of Science Degree

Plant Biology

Students who appreciate the diversity and beauty of plant life, are concerned about ecology, and are interested in the mechanisms behind plant growth and development will find the plant biology option challenging and rewarding. This is a rigorous curriculum, providing students with a strong science background and exposure to the full scope of the plant world — from the smallest components of a cell to a whole plant. Plant biology majors have the opportunity to choose and perform individual research on a project under the guidance of a departmental faculty scientist. This Department of Botany and Plant Pathology program is designed to prepare students for careers in plant biotechnology, genetics, molecular biology, physiology, pathology, and weed science.
